HotLink: 3-Element House

The 3-Element House in Santiago, Chile takes on the interesting challenge of creating a new home from a one floor, 300 square meter house that was already in place on land that was in a poor state. Three different kinds of stone combine to describe the three elements the house is derived from, a double height entrance, interconnected living room, and an icon main room volume. See how the diagram below is transformed into a beautiful new home with amazing design.

HotLink: Why Architects choose Architecture

With the economy as tight as it is, there is no information deemed unnecessary to consider when it comes to students being noticed and landing their first jobs in the business. However what you must realize is that at first it isn't all about the business side so much as the design side, an interest in form and a desire to leave behind a legacy of functional design. It is necessary according to one expert to follow the pull toward architecture, and let the business side of things flow behind with it. Following a diverse panel to discover how you can get noticed by employers and whether it is the right time to take certain risks.

A DIY chess set for my geeky cousin

Guest post written by Linda Foster

My cousin Mark and I are really close. We have been for years. But I guess the chance of that happening is really good when you're the exact same age and you grow up down the street from each other though. But his birthday is coming up and I want to continue the tradition of giving him really thoughtful, one of a kind gifts. He does the same for me and we're constantly trying to one up ourselves from last year. Even though his birthday is well over a month away, I've started looking up ideas for what I should get him.

As I was looking through some potential gifts that I thought might interest Mark, I ran across the site Wirelessinternet.net. I read through it some and after that I decided to change over my home internet service to that company.

I found a tutorial on how to make a LED chess set, so I went out and bought the supplies. We'll see if I'm actually able to do it. Otherwise, I'll just give the supplies to him as a DIY gift. He'd probably actually love that.

HotLink: Ty Hedfan

An interesting river side house built by Featherstone Young gives new meaning to cantilevered housing. Literally meaning "hovering house," Ty Hedfan cantilevers over the river with double height spaces creating a courtyard, while the other half of the house is underground covered by a green roof. This simply stunning house design is a must see.

HotLink: Rossiya’s Flourish

This amazing design, with its enormous LED Media facade entrance, is one of the largest buildings I have seen to incorporate LEDs on that large of scale. Accenting the LED facade are the folds, which have a Greg Lynn-ness about them and act as traces of trajectories of events as they unfold. It is no surprise to see that gijo paul GEORGE / hend ALMATROUK currently have Architects like Greg Lynn and Lebbeaus Woods on their radar while constructing this cinema.

Think about trajectories toward past events, if you had to construct your house and include "trajectories" of important past events in your life, how would you accomplish it? Design it, and I will add it to my blog and link back to your blog.
